Is anyone looking for an additional bib? I got an email today offering one up, for a donation to the Burma Humanitarian Mission. If interested, please email Michael.
What do you get when two runners converse during a 10.5 mile run?
Answer: Planning for a 21 mile run!
After much deliberation, Rachel and I have decided to conquer the Rock Creek—Capital Crescent loop (approximately 21 miles) during the regular Sunday Long Run this Sunday, Feb 24th. The loop goes through Rock Creek park, Georgetown Branch Trail, and Capital Crescent Trail (back to Georgetown). We would love to have fellow WRC’ers join in with us!
See you on Sunday!
Winners All! at the GW Marathon Relay
The arctic gale could not suppress noble vigorous youthful pursuits at Sunday’s GW Birthday Marathon and Relay, hosted by the DC Road Runners. WRC coordinated with the Dojo to take the top two men’s team places, and sweep the co-ed team division! Continue reading
LIVE UPDATE: Emily leads off the relay!
George’s Very Vigorous Birthday
WRC’s namesake, George, is pretty much booked for the entire weekend, especially given all that’s happening with the club. On Saturday at 8 AM, he’s leading the 2013 Board Members on a trail run through Scott’s Run Nature Preserve, the site of the very fun Spin in the Woods (XC) 8K which is held in April. Then around 9 AM, George will trade in his unforgiving minutes on a stopwatch for minutes written with a space pen, as he attends the kickoff board meeting, while being graciously hosted by WRC’s VP, Carla, at her home in McLean, VA.
Paperwork finally in order, George will hardly have time for a disco nap before pursuing an ambitious Sunday tricorne:
- the regular Sunday Distance Run,
- racing against Drew and Christine, for points at the first event on the Grand Prix schedule (George Washington Birthday Classic 10K, 8 AM, Alexandria),
- reporting to General Yi and racing the anchor leg with WRC teammates and Dojo-istas (George Washington Birthday Marathon and Relay, 10:30 AM, Greenbelt, MD)
One can only sympathize with the guy, if good old George doesn’t feel very much like pushing product (e.g. mattresses, appliances, late model cars, cupcakes) on Monday’s observance of his birthday, and opts instead to take an ice bath and a day off.
No Snow Sunday in Washington DC
A great group showed up for a sunny Sunday run. We knew our friends to the north were getting their cardio in with snow shoveling repeats…but we broke a nice sweat and thought about sunblock.
- Tris takes his fashion cues from Gerry and Lucy.
- Mike is back!
- Club policy dictates that no two shirts should be alike.
- Kit, Christine, Drew and Dan welcome the sun.
- Michaela and Nelson are right on time.
- Washington Running Club dominates on Sunday morning. A pack starts the Bridges Run and a small pack hits the Canal.
Movie is on its way!
Kit, Michaela, and Carla are going to make sure the movie, Town of Runners, is a success. We are working hard on getting this off the ground. Michaela already has lots of good suggestions from her contacts at Georgetown. If anyone has ideas for a place to screen the movie, please let us know. We are looking for a spot in Georgetown, hopefully, for a screening on Saturday afternoon, April 27th.
This should coincide nicely with lots of hoopla surrounding the Nike Women’s Half Marathon the next day.
