Sunday Distance Run – 5/4

The route for the SDR tomorrow will be the Ross Drive loop. This is around 13.5 miles total. The map for the section from Peirce Mill around Ross Drive can be found on the WRC maps page as well as an “almost correct” version from a prior posting. Other mileage options can include out-and-back for fewer than 13.5 miles or the full Rock Creek – CCT loop for around 20 miles.  Start at 33rd and M street in Georgetown at 8am!

Looking forward to the great weather tomorrow morning, and seeing everyone on the run!

Clattenburg Wins, Karlsen Wins

Breaking news: Rachel Clattenburg smashed through the sub-three hour marathon barrier and ran a personal best of 2:57:58 for the win at today’s 18th Annual New Jersey Marathon. She was more than 12 minutes ahead of the second fastest woman in the field. Report. Results. Article and photo.

Rachel is now tied for 16th fastest WRC woman marathoner ever, and will be added to our list of Top Club Marathoners.

And on Saturday, Paul Karlsen won the SSC Wounded Warrior Run 10K in Rockville, MD. Results. Photos.

Update: Vice President Carla Freyvogel ran the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in Washington, DC, with her daughter, Grace Eginton (of the South Brooklyn Running Club). And Liz Lambert brought her own daughter, Evelyn Hamblet, to her first of many post-SDR meetups!

Sunday Distance Run – 4/13

It looks like we will have near perfect running weather tomorrow morning.  Many of us are running Boston next Monday, so probably not many running super long.  The planned route around Ross Drive is 13 miles:

There are many options to lengthen or shorten this route. Start and finish at 33rd and M in Georgetown. We may have a reporter joining us.

Great Times at Cherry Blossom 10 Miler

WRC had a great turnout at this past Sunday’s Cherry Blossom 10 Miler – both on and around the course.  We had over 20 club members running the race with another dozen or so sprinkled around the course cheering everyone on!  The support from fellow club members proved to be extra valuable as many came away with major PR’s.

Feeling cheery after the 2014 Cherry Blossom 10 Miler! WRCers L-R: Kendall Taylor, Ben Stutts, Jesse Frantz, Julia Taylor, and Pat O'Keefe.

WRC Four Teams Strong for Boston

We’ve made it through a pretty brutal winter, pushing each other through many long, hard, wet, and cold miles together. Spring is finally here which means Boston is near!

We have expanded greatly from last year’s Men’s Open and Women’s Open team entries. This year, perhaps for the first time in the club’s long history, WRC has officially entered team entries for all four Boston Marathon team categories. We have a very strong Women’s Open team with 8 team members competing! The other three team entries are 3 member each, for a total of 17 runners!

All can be tracked from the Boston Marathon’s AT&T Athlete Alert. Please also see The One Fund for information regarding donation & assistance for victims & their families that were most impacted by last year’s tragedy.

The current team entries are as follows:

Women's Open - Emily Buzzell, Lauren Gabler, Olga Gorodetsky,
Laura Jennings, Jenny Paul, Lucy Rogers,
               Stephanie Selmer, and Katie Tomlinson

Men's Open - Drew Killian, Max Lockwood, and Brian Savitch

Women's Masters - Shinobu Kusakabe, Lydia Pelliccia, and Julia Taylor

Men's Masters - John Kendra, Jim Moore, and Jay Wind

If you are a current team member running the Boston Marathon and are not on the team entries listed below, then please let us know (if you have not already done so) by emailing sdr@washrun.org! We are also organizing a social gathering (within a short walk of the finish area) for much needed post-race recovery.

Good luck to everyone!
