Club Neutralizes Sequester with New Stimulus Plan

In a surprise move this afternoon, the Washington Running Club Reserve Bank (WRC-RB) lowered key interest rates on oxygen debt and unilaterally raised aerobic thresholds for its entire membership, effective immediately. The LetsRun.com Bourse was caught unprepared for this development, and gossip volumes ticked upwards.

The bank’s Board of Governors explained their decision as a “necessary, direct, and proportional response” to the grave dangers posed by the painful Sequester, including furloughs, excess free time spent aimlessly loafing between coffee shops and watering holes, an increased access to daylight, and other miscellaneous forms of obstructionism.

No Snow Sunday in Washington DC

A great group showed up for a sunny Sunday run.  We knew our friends to the north were getting their cardio in with snow shoveling repeats…but we broke a nice sweat and thought about sunblock.

A Supposedly Tough Thing I’ll Probably Do All Over Again

Yes, we have most definitely relaunched washrun.org, as part of a broader communications effort this year: to share this club’s marvelous history across the past four decades, to enhance our ability to take on new running challenges, and to accelerate the telling of new and exciting stories. Allow me to point out a couple of new features and design choices that will hopefully work toward those ends!

Last chance to order your WRC racing apparel!

Order by Friday June 22

WRC is creating singlets so we can look just as impressive as our race results. Both the men’s and women’s singlets are sleek, lightweight, and bright yellow. The artwork, printed with dark blue ink, will be similar to that used for previous versions of WRC apparel. Take a look at the designs for the front and back.

WRC is subsidizing the singlets, so each one will cost you just $15. Once we have everyone’s requests, we’ll place an order with our distributor and screen printer. So don’t miss out!

To order your singlet(s), please fill out this simple online form. Please note that the original email said the men’s singlets would be Brooks brand; we’re now using Nike as you can see in the above link.

Respond to this email with any questions! This is your last chance to pre-order, so please fill out the online form by Friday June 22. Thanks!

Please volunteer or run at W&OD 10k!

June 20, 2011

IMPORTANT: Volunteers and Participants Needed!!

WRC has agreed to co-sponsor the “Friends of the W&OD 10K” race to be held Saturday evening (6:30), July 30, in Vienna Va.

The race itself will take place on the W&OD trail. Web site is http://www.mc-coop.org/home.aspx. As co-sponsors, WRC members receive a $10 discount on registration ($20 vs. $30). Also, for every two volunteers, WRC receives one free entry. WRC will also be featured on the race T-shirt.

This race supports not only the W&OD, which all of us use and value highly, but 14 other excellent charities (see website).

WRC has agreed to provide a variety of volunteers, with volunteer shifts typically lasting four hours. Please take advantage of this opportunity to support our club and support this worthy cause. Volunteers will receive both a free race T-shirt as well as a WRC T-shirt to proudly wear (the latter) while volunteering at the event. Great visibility for our club!

If you do not volunteer, please register to run this race. We would like to maximize our club’s presence at this event!

How to participate (running or volunteering):

No later than 25 June 2011:

1. Email WRC president John Kendra (jrkinva@gmail.com), letting him know whether you plan to volunteer, run, or both.
2. Free entries (based on # of volunteers) will then be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
3. Runners not covered by the free entries will be notified that they should register on their own.

Thanks everyone, I look forward to seeing you all there on July 30!
