WRC Heading for Boston

The B.A.A. Weather Coordinator appears to have done well this year with getting the temperature under control. We are looking at a high in the upper 50’s. WRC is fielding teams in the both the women’s and men’s team competitions.

The WRC Women’s Team is comprised of Emily Buzzell, Rachel Clattenburg, and Raquel Morgan. The WRC Men’s Team is comprised of Drew Killian, Brian Savitch, and Mark Wright. Other Sunday Distance Run regulars running in Boston include Alan Pemberton and Max Lockwood.

As best we can tell, the club last fielded scoring teams at the Boston Marathon back in 2007 (summary). Historically, the club has finished as high as 2nd in the Men’s team competition back in 1977 (article), and won the Women’s team competition in 1983 (newsletter); all of which is notably before the obtainable records of past team champions.

The WRC singlet is packed. More to follow from Boston. Good luck to everyone!

Cherry Blossom Results: A First Look

Unofficial Cherry Blossom 10 Miler Team Results and Individual Award Results have just been published. Impressions to come with stories in moments.

FLASH UPDATE: Our Women’s Open and Mixed Masters teams both finished third, meaning that fame, fortune, and hopefully coveted engraved medals and a team plaque will be theirs. Our elite team finished 2nd, but in the ideal configuration we could have finished 3rd in the Men’s Open division, along with our other teams which finished 6th, 10th, and 21st.

Team scoring is based on the sum of the net finishing times of the first three eligible finishers on the team as recorded by chiptime. For full details on team scores, see the race site, here.

Below is the digest of performances across WRC for the morning. Way to go!

WRC is returning to compete in the Running Club division of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom (CUCB) Ten Mile Run on April 7, 2013. We are fielding teams in the Metropolitan Men’s Elite, Women’s Open, Mixed Masters, and Men’s Open divisions. This is a combined effort between the WRC and the Dojo of Pain training group. I’m pretty excited about this year’s massive turnout—twice as large as the club fielded last year!

Plans accompanying the race include 1) taking a group photo AFTER the race, at 9:30 AM, near the security wall North of the Washington Monument; and 2) catching up with Madeline Harms over lunch on Saturday, as she’s back in town from the Twin Cities. Continue reading

Wednesday Interval Workouts

Looking to add some spring to your step? The Crawlers, another DC running club, has extended an open invitation to its weekly Wednesday interval workouts. The group usually meets at 6:30 AM at Banneker track, but they sometimes meet in Woodley Park for hill repeats and they occasionally do an evening track workout. It’s a fun group of people with a nice range of speeds. They don’t have a website, so if you want to learn about upcoming workouts and where they’ll be meeting, send an email to: <Ben (dot) Geman (at) thehill (dot) com> and he’ll add you to the email list.

WRC should NEVER turn down an invitation to a party!

From our friend, Samia Akbar at the Clarendon Pacers:

“I just wanted to extend an invite to you and everyone else at the Washington Running Club to the Nike Women’s Half Prep-Rally put on by Pacers happening Thursday, April 11th. This event will be held at the Clarendon location at 7pm. We’ll have plenty of delicious food, sweet treats, giveaways, fashion shows, specials on Nike apparel, a DJ etc!!! It’s going to be a super fun atmosphere so please feel free to stop in and bring friends. This open to everyone, people training for the race and new runners alike.”

I am thinking we gather at American Tap Room (map) afterwards? Should be fun for all!
