Sunday Distance Run – 5/18

The planned run for tomorrow will be around 15 miles that will include a few trails. We will connect with the Glover-Archbold trail route off of the CCT. This will take us around to Peirce Mill where we will take the (upper) Western Ridge Trail past the stables to Bingham Drive. We will take Bingham to Beach Drive where we will proceed back down on the Valley Trail. The segment from Peirce Mill, up, around, and back down to Georgetown can be viewed here.

In-House descriptions of both parts are also available here:
Glover-Archbold Trail (9.9 Miles)
Bingham Drive – Valley Trail Loop (5.8 miles)

The maps are intended to be general idea of the trail routes, but some improvisation may be required. If you are uncertain about the directions (which may be most of us), then please stay within shouting distance of the trail master! We will stop for water at Peirce Mill (in both directions).

Yes, still meeting at 8:00 AM in front of CB2 (33rd and M Street, Georgetown).

Sunday Distance Run – 5/4

The route for the SDR tomorrow will be the Ross Drive loop. This is around 13.5 miles total. The map for the section from Peirce Mill around Ross Drive can be found on the WRC maps page as well as an “almost correct” version from a prior posting. Other mileage options can include out-and-back for fewer than 13.5 miles or the full Rock Creek – CCT loop for around 20 miles.  Start at 33rd and M street in Georgetown at 8am!

Looking forward to the great weather tomorrow morning, and seeing everyone on the run!

Sunday Distance Run – 4/13

It looks like we will have near perfect running weather tomorrow morning.  Many of us are running Boston next Monday, so probably not many running super long.  The planned route around Ross Drive is 13 miles:

There are many options to lengthen or shorten this route. Start and finish at 33rd and M in Georgetown. We may have a reporter joining us.

Sunday Distance Run – 3/30

Get ready for a nice, easy, long run this Sunday! The planned route will be similar to our 2/23 Sunday Distance Run which took us out Custis Trail, through Arlington neighborhoods to Chain Bridge, up the Towpath, and back down MacArthur.

This week’s planned route will add a couple miles on for a nice round 24 miles. The primary addition will include exiting Custis Trail onto Bluemont Junction Trail, turning onto W&OD Trail, and cutting back up Custis Trail to continue the route up N. Harrison St through the Arlington neighborhoods. The other (minor) modification will be turn onto the Capitol Crescent Trail off of MacArthur, and finish along Water/K Street.

Please review the full 24-mile route map before Sunday! We will have a gatorade/water stop along the towpath between Chain Bridge and the cutover to MacArthur.

For those with no desire or plan to run 24-miles this weekend:

16 Miles – Turn back down Towpath toward Georgetown after crossing Chain Bridge

10-11 Miles – Continue on Custis Trail toward Rosslyn/Georgetown after the Bluemont/W&OD addition (don’t turn onto N. Harrison St).

See you on Sunday!

Sunday Distance Run – 3/23

WRC has two team entries for tomorrow’s Caesar Rodney Half Marathon race in Wilmington, DE and some WRC’ers training for Boston (or other upcoming marathons) will be running a 26.2k “simulator” on a flat loop at Hains Point.

In addition to both of these stimulating activities, our regular Sunday Distance Run will start at 33rd and M in Georgetown (in front of CB2).  The mileage for most will be 10 to 16 miles.

Sunday Distance Run – 3/16

Lots of racing during these few weeks, but we should still have a good turnout for the Sunday Distance Run tomorrow. The planned route will be similar to our recent 18 and change route which goes up Beach Drive to Wise Road for cutover through neighborhoods to the CCT. The slight variation will include an additional mile and change on Beach Drive to make this an even 20 mile run.

Please review the route map for the details.

Looking forward to green snow on Monday!

Sunday Distance Run – 3/2

This Sunday’s Distance Run will include an 18 & change loop that is a slight deviation from the Rock Creek-Capital Crescent Trail loop. We will plan to exit Rock Creek at Wise Road to take a more direct path the to CCT start in Bethesda. There is water at Peirce Mill (around mile 4.5), “probably” somewhere around Wise Road (around mile 8.5), and at B&N (around mile 11.5).

Additional mileage options: For 20+ miles – continue around waterfront. For 16 or less – out-and-back on Rock Creek.

Please review the route map for the details.

Last week’s 20.5 run was a great group effort! I counted around 20 strong pushing through the Arlington hills together. Look forward to seeing everyone again this Sunday!

As usual, we will meet at 33rd & M (in front of CB2) and finish at Dean & Deluca. See you this Sunday at 8am sharp!
