Don’t forget to come out to the Happy Hour at the Sculpture Garden this evening (National Gallery of Art, Jazz in the Garden) starting at 4:30. It will be a great time and a chance to say farewell to long-time WRC member Emily Buzzell who is going back to school.

Movie Night Reminder and Sunday Run
Hey all,
Another reminder that we will be seeing Boston, An American Running Story, which is playing at the Gallery Place Cinema at April 19 at 7:30 pm. We will hold a happy hour at Clyde’s of Gallery Place nearby, starting at 4 when the drinks and raw bar are half price.
And as usual, join us this Sunday at 8:00 AM in front of the Georgetown CB2 store for our weekly long run! Sweat a lot, get those endorphins roaring, and stick around for coffee, carbs, and conversation afterwards.

UPDATED: WRC finished third in a very close race among the Mixed Teams, with a combined time of 9:05:50 (fun fact: they would have placed second among Men’s Open Teams)! Team awards are presented to the top three teams in each division. Way to go!

Every Cloud DOES Have a Silver Lining
FLASH NEWS: WRC scholar-athlete Daniel Yi, and his doping liability spreading idea from 2005, gets a mention in today’s New Yorker (“Tyson Gay and How to Clean Up Track”, by Nicholas Thompson, online edition). That article is available here, and Daniel’s original paper for Legal Affairs is available here.
Volunteer Opportunity: W&OD 5K
This comes from the desk of our tireless club treasurer, James Scarborough:
I would like to propose that WRC provide Arlington Safety and Health Foundation (Jay Wind‘s non-profit) race assistance on Sunday, 24 March, at the W&OD 5K. The race starts at 4pm and doesn’t conflict with Sunday morning. The registration starts at 2:30pm and I’m sure [Jay] can use a person or two there. There’s also a need for course sentries in several locations. Since it’s a double out and back 5K on the bike-path, nobody will out there that long.
Probably absolute maximum time commitment would be between 2:30 and 5:30 (and that’s helping to clean up). I’ll probably be running the race and probably helping with the packet pickup; last year I helped registration too, and I’ve helped at the finish line in the past as well.
So, if we can get four or five WRC people helping, that would be great. The starting point is practically next door to John Kendra, too, right in the middle of Falls Church.
Friends of the W&OD are a beneficiary, and the local Boy Scout troop usually provides volunteers.
If you would like to lend a hand on this coming Sunday, March 24th, please contact James at either treasurer@washrun.org or jbs1958 [at] comcast [dot] net. He will make sure that your talents are used either on the course or to help with other parts of the race.
And for those who are interested in racing, you can enter either online or by USPS mail.
Last chance to order your WRC racing apparel!
Order by Friday June 22
WRC is creating singlets so we can look just as impressive as our race results. Both the men’s and women’s singlets are sleek, lightweight, and bright yellow. The artwork, printed with dark blue ink, will be similar to that used for previous versions of WRC apparel. Take a look at the designs for the front and back.
WRC is subsidizing the singlets, so each one will cost you just $15. Once we have everyone’s requests, we’ll place an order with our distributor and screen printer. So don’t miss out!
To order your singlet(s), please fill out this simple online form. Please note that the original email said the men’s singlets would be Brooks brand; we’re now using Nike as you can see in the above link.
Respond to this email with any questions! This is your last chance to pre-order, so please fill out the online form by Friday June 22. Thanks!
