First Sunday of the month run

Continuing the tradition of taking a photo on the first Sunday run of the month. We always post them on Facebook, but due to requests from members, and a growing number of people deleting their Facebook accounts, we’ll try to post them here as well.

Our resident weather expert and president John Evans departs and we have the rainiest run of the year to date. Coincidence? I don’t think so. We had a good turnout and nice run despite the rain.

Earth Day Clean-up April 27

Ploggers and bike riders will pick up trash along a beloved Arlington running path. Ploggers will be invited to jog out and back along the W&OD trail from Bon Air Park to the terminus at Shirlington. The furthest distance would be about six miles, but shorter runs are possible by turning around earlier. Here is the promotional blurb:

Date: Saturday, April 27, 2019
Time: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Location: Bon Air Park Shelter, 850 N. Lexington, Arlington

Get connected with the community and EcoAction Arlington to remove litter from the park and Arlington’s bike trails, helping to keep litter, especially harmful plastics, out of our natural places and streams.

This event is part of the Alice Ferguson Foundation‘s Annual Potomac Watershed Cleanup. Bike the “Arlington Loop,” walk, or plog the park with EcoAction Arlington on Earth Day! Bring your energy, your bike and helmet, or running shoes and join us for a big celebration of Earth Day! Please bring a reusable water bottle. We meet at the Bon Air Park Shelter. Snacks and supplies provided. Additional details and registration here.

Grammy Award Winning Sunday Social Run

Our weather luck seems to have run out, so plan for a cold Sunday social run this week. We’ll gather in front of the CB2 in Georgetown at 8:00, run a bit, and meet back up for coffee and conversation.

Please mark your calendar for our annual meeting and party, which will take place on Saturday evening, March 2. Details are still being finalized, but members in good standing who attend will receive free food, a free drink ticket, and will participate in our annual raffle (with fabulous prizes).

Sunday Run AND a Movie

Come join us for our weekly Sunday Social Run, this Sunday (as always) in front of CB2 in Georgetown at 8:00 am.

Sunday Movie Club this week will feature “Widows,” directed by Academy Award winning director Steve McQueen (“12 Years a Slave”) and starring Viola Davis and many, many, many others. The movie is playing at 10:15 am Sunday at the AMC/Loews Georgetown. I’ve snagged seat E7.

Sunday Run

We have ordered up a dry and windy morning for tomorrow’s 8:00 am social run. Come join us in front of CB2, burn a few pre-Thanksgiving calories, and then spend a few quality moments with us at Dean & Deluca after the run.

May 19-Happy Hour and Sunday Run!

Don’t forget to come out to the Happy Hour at the Sculpture Garden this evening (National Gallery of Art, Jazz in the Garden) starting at 4:30. It will be a great time and a chance to say farewell to long-time WRC member Emily Buzzell who is going back to school.

We’ll be meeting on Sunday for our weekly social run.  It looks like the weather will cooperate, so come join us outside of the CB2 in Georgetown at 8:00 am.  Stick around for coffee (almost certainly at Dean and Deluca based on the weather report).  As always, all are welcome, so bring a friend along.
It’s May Membership Drive (kind of like NPR Pledge Drive, but less annoying).  If WRC enriches your life, please become a dues-paying member.  It’s just pennies a day.  http://www.washrun.org/payments/

Stay tuned for a WRC survey in coming weeks, and our summer Saturday neigborhood runs, starting soon.
