Race Results

Las Vegas Half Marathon, February 4th

Jim Hage ran a terrific race at the Las Vegas Half Marathon, posting a 1:09:48 to place 14th overall, and second in the Masters Division. The race was won by Weldon Johnson, formerly of DC in a time of 1:05:35

Marine Corps Marathon – Sometime in the Previous Century
Kevin Ryan brings word of the Marine Corps Marathon results. He tells us the Marines have finally determined that WRC team of Drosky, Fields and Ryan took first in the men’s open team category at the Marine Corps Marathon last October. Kudos to all three of these gentlemen.

The Marines promise to let all know the results of World War II, as soon as they finish the final tabulation.

News of the Club

Club Meeting

A club meeting was held at Whitlow’s on Wilson Friday, January 26th. In attendance were Bryon Powell, Nate Reilly, Barb Fallon, Adina Siegel, Jim Wadsworth, Bob Platt, Henry Grossmann, Chris Galaty, Dan Wallace and Kevin Ryan.

Among the issues discussed were how to better communicate which races the club is running. To this end, Nate Reilly agreed to put together a listserve list of club members. This will be used to make email announcements.

Like last year, we will be assigning captains to each team. The captains will be responsible for finalizing the composition of the team, and submitting the necessary paperwork to the race. Volunteers for Race captains are quite welcome!
Finally Bryon Powell was selected to be our social director. Happy hours are now young Powell’s responsibility. This particular development falls under the rubric of “Inmates Taking Charge of the Asylum.

Sunday Run
Beacoup numbers of runners attended the Sunday run on February 4th. Anthony Belber, Dave DeSchryver, Bryon Powell, David Stoudt, Kate Hudson and Aaron Schwartzbard set a blazing pace doing the 18 mile Northwest Passage , while middle distance runners (Alison Lacika, Vicky Cosgrove, Barb Fallon et al.) ran north along McArthurer Blvd, and came back along the canal. Per usual, the problems of the world were discussed (and solved) afterwards at Dean & Deluca.

Questions were asked about the fastest workout ever posted on the NW passage. Club legend has it that this route was once nailed it in time of about 1:46, back during the Reagan administration.

Women’s Speed Workout

Nate Reilly’s speed workout for women on Wednesday night is gaining steam. This represents an opportunity for women to train apart from men, in a relaxed, less competitive situation.

For reasons unknown men tend to hyper competitive in sporting situations. This (combined with male tendencies to be non-communicative and dress badly) makes guys problematic training partners, not to mention household guests.
