Run of Infamy

It was time for another Run of Infamy (formerly named the Run of Shame). It was 8 miles and 6 stops of infamous history! Thanks so much to John Smilde for being the coordinator for this run as well as our presenters- Ed, Katie B, Jordan, Sidney, Sergey and Anna. Huge applause to our marshalls- Robert, Frithjov and John S for keeping everyone together.

We learned a lot of infamous bits and bobs, from a duel at Lafayette Square that turned deadly and spooky, to the boarding house turned karaoke bar where Abe Lincoln almost got abducted, and off to the Capitol where we learned some Jan 6th facts, then to the tidal basin where a stripper reportedly jumped in, the big traffic jam that made the Memorial Bridge finally happen and finishing our two parter- Deep Throat facts in Rosslyn that followed the previous year when we learned about the Watergate Scandal! Fascinating and Fun Stuff!

Can’t wait to do it again next year!

Sunday Run … and more

It’s obviously the best weekend of the year. College football, US Open Tennis, Yankees/Red Sox…. and lots of opportunities to run with WRC!

Sunday, we’ll be meeting in front of the CB2 on M Street for our 7:00 AM social run. A few die-hards will be there at 6:05 AM to fit in 6 miles before the rest of the group arrives. And wear your Sunday running finest for our first Sunday photo.

Labor Day Monday is our fourth annual RUN OF SHAME. If you’re new to the group, a regular, or haven’t been by recently, this is the event for you. Here are the details…

Run Of Shame / Sunday Run

Looks like we are in for near-perfect conditions for our Sunday distance run! Come on out for some quality miles with your running buds, and cap it off with coffee and socializing at Dean & Deluca after. Variable pace groups (7:00 – 10:00) and distances (8-20 mi).

We’ll start as usual at 0700 in front of CB2 on M and 33rd in Georgetown. For those running really long (e.g. 20) and still desiring to make social hour before everyone else leaves, a few stalwart souls will start at 0600 to grab a quick 6 miles around the mall before rejoining the main group at 0700. (That very select group has lately been a ~8min pace group.)

Finally, remember our (4th?) annual Labor Day Run of Shame, taking place on Monday, Sept. 4 (so, two Mondays hence) at the Georgetown Waterfront. See flyer below. This is always a blast and has proven a great WRC recruiting event as well. Plan on coming out to participate and be an ambassador for the club—try and bring a friend!
