WRC Community Service Project + More!

Tomorrow is our WRC community service project from 7:30 am to 10 am. We’ll be helping out with Saturday morning meal preparation at Charlie’s Place in Kalorama (near Dupont Circle). Charlie’s Place is a non-denominational, anti-hunger, homeless ministry of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church. If you’re able to join us, please rsvp through the Facebook event page.

As always, we meet Sunday for our group run. Still at 8:00 am, still in front of the CB2, still running 4-12 miles, still meeting for coffee and food around 9:15.

WRC Happy Hour, formerly known as Thirsty Thursdays, returns on Thursday March 30 at 5:30 pm. This month’s happy hour location is Dirty Habit DC, 555 8th Street NW, in the Hotel Monaco.

WRC Movie Night is April 19 at the Gallery Place 14 Cinema.
Join your favorite runners for a showing of Boston, An American Running Story. We will hold a happy hour at Clyde’s of Gallery Place nearby, starting at 4 when the drinks and raw bar are half price. The movie starts at 7:30. Tickets to the movie are selling fast, so get yours now.

If you’re thinking about running Marine Corps Marathon on October 22, make sure to enter the registration lottery by Wednesday. A number of us will be training together based on a 20-week schedule I wrote up. It’s much, much more fun to train for a marathon with a group. So sign up now!

3/5 Sunday Run, Get Pumped for Pets, and Service Event

Please join us on Sunday March 5 at 8:00 am in front of CB2 in Georgetown for our weekly group run. It’s the first Sunday of the month, so we’ll have our group picture before the run. Then stick around for coffee and conversation at Peet’s on M Street.

If you think that WRC is worth more than, or equal to, $1.67 per month, please go to our website and start or renew your membership.http://www.washrun.org/membership/

Contact me if you’re interested in joining our alternative run on March 12 as we travel to Chester, Maryland to participate in the Get Pumped For Pets 5K, 10K, or 15K.

Our March community service project takes place on Saturday, March 25 from 7:30 am until 10:00 am at Charlie’s Place in Kalorama/Dupont Circle. Pat O’Keefe will be sending along more information about signing up via email and a new Facebook event page.

Sunday Distance Run – WINTER HOURS are in effect!

Hey gang!

Starting THIS Sunday, September 11, 2016, our winter hours are in effect. This means that our runs now through Memorial Day 2017 will start at 8:00 a.m. and NOT 7:00 a.m. Spread the word – everyone deserves an extra hour of sleep!

(We recognize that it’s completely crazy to call the start time “winter hours” when it’s 100 degrees outside, but that’s the name nonetheless)

Hope to see you on Sunday for our distance run. The run starts in front of the CB2 store in Georgetown (3307 M Street NW) at 8:00 a.m. All paces and distances welcome.

3rd Annual WRC Run of Shame – Monday, September 5 – Oh my!

Washington Running Club
3rd Annual Labor Day Run of Shame

 Monday, September 5th, 2016
8:30 am Georgetown Waterfront Park

Join the Washington Running Club on a 6 mile fun run, stopping at some of DC’s notorious spots to learn about the intrigue, scandal, shame and history that has shaped our city. Entertaining speakers, easy pace, good conversation, great folks.

Finish up with a splash in the fountain and cold watermelon!

Leaving from the intersection of Wisconsin and Water Street at 8:30 am

WRC Summer Hours start this weekend!

The start of summer is usually marked by BBQs and the beach, but for WRC, it’s marked by the start of our “summer hours”. That’s right, starting this Sunday, May 29 through Labor Day, our runs will start at 7:00 a.m. instead of 8:00 a.m. This will help us beat the heat as we start training for fall races.

Sunday Distance Run for May 29
Our next Sunday Distance Run will be held on Sunday, May 29 at 7:00 a.m. in front of the CB2 store in Georgetown. Everyone is welcome. In honor of Memorial Day, we’ll meet at Dog Tag Bakery after the run instead of Dean & Deluca. Dog Tag Bakery is a non-profit that supports veterans through a work-study program.
Hope to see you there!

Cherry Blossom 10-Miler: Windy and Wonderful

If you weren’t at the Cherry Blossom 10 miler, you probably heard the wind howling through the night. It was no match for the WRC team, though – all of our runners had strong races despite harsh conditions. It should be a huge confidence booster going into the Boston Marathon this weekend! Here’s the results:
  • Kirk Masterson  1:04:18  (Master’s Team)
  • Helen Burns  1:06:42
  • Jordan Konig  1:10:20  (Master’s Team)
  • Julia Taylor  1:13:25  (Master’s Team)
  • Kathy Schroeder  1:13:41
  • Jesse Frantz  1:24:38
  • Dale Gerew  1:27:13 (Master’s Team)
  • James Scarborough  1:30:02 (Master’s Team)
I’m thrilled to say that our Master’s Team came in 6th overall! Congrats to all of our runners and thanks to Pat and Mike for cheering in less than ideal conditions.

Post-race…warm with friends but cold from wind.

Sunday Distance Run for 4/3 is ON

Our Sunday Distance Run for April 3 is ON. Numbers may be small as a lot of our group is either racing or cheering at Cherry Blossom, but the SDR is sure to be a good time. We’ll meet at 8:00 a.m. in front of the CB2 Store in Georgetown followed by coffee/carbs at Dean & Deluca. All paces welcome.
