Washington Running Club News
Hello WRC Members!
It’s getting warmer out and racing season is coming into full swing. See below for some great announcements of races, events and fun runs coming up this month.
Long Run–As always, the Sunday long run starts at 8 am on the corner of 33rd and M in Georgetown. Meet for coffee at Dean and Deluca after the run.
We want to hear all of your race results, run related stories, and see your race and run photos so we can share all of your news with the club. Also, if you are interested in writing a race report or another article, let us know. Please e-mail information and photos to Tamma at tammaanne@gmail.com.
Race Teams
The WRC will be fielding race teams at five events this year: the Capitol Hill Classic 10K on May 16, the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half-Marathon on September 19, the Army Ten Miler on October 24, the SOME 5Kon Thanksgiving morning (website from 2009), and the Jingle All The Way 10K on December 12. Our first focus is on assembling the team for the Capitol Hill Classic 10K. Teams for this race are of unlimited size, so the more the merrier! (According to RunWashington.com, awards are given not only to the fastest team, but also the largest).
If you are interested in participating on the WRC Capitol Hill Classic 10K team, please list “Washington Running Club” as your team when you register – please also e-mail to (cristinab@washrun.org) to let her know you’ve registered, so she can confirm. If you’ve already registered, and didn’t identify a team, just let Cris know via e-mail, and she’ll make sure you’re added.
Additionally, this is a first call for fall race teams for the Woodrow Wilson Half and the Army Ten Miler. If you are interested in participating in teams for either event, please let Cris know. Registration for Army closed in record time, but there always the slim possibility (not a promise) that we may be able to obtain bibs for runners required to fill out a team — so if you are interested in running Army as part of a team, but missed the entry cutoff, just let Cris know so she can keep an eye out for ways to get you a bib.
Spring 5k on April 24th
Want to PR in the 5k? Come race a fast and flat course in East Potomac Park to Hains Point at 8am on April 24th. Awards will be given for overall winners and age groups of ten years!

Run into Runners event at Lululemon!
Come join us for a run party to kick off the Cherry Blossom 10 miler! Mingle with elite runners and ask running experts all your training and racing questions. The event is this Friday April 9th from 7-9pm at Lululemon Athletica in Georgetown (3265 M St NW). There will be snacks provided by Sweet Green, live music and lots of fun! Many WRC board members and runners will be there to answer questions and share running experience.
Congrats to Matthew Gerke!
Matthew ran the Dahlgren Trail Half Marathon in King George, VA on February 28th and placed 3rd in his age group. He ran a time of 1:39:50 and also placed 10th overall. Congratulations Matthew!
Remember to send your race results and photos to tammaanne@gmail.com.
Monthly Fun Run
We had a great time dodging tourists on the Mall and admiring the cherry blossoms for our first monthly fun run and are excited to meet new potential WRC members for the April fun run on Wednesday, April 28th at 7pm. Let’s meet up again in front of Lululemon Athletica in Logan Circle, on P St NW between 14th and 15th streets. Bring friends, coworkers, family, acquaintances — anyone who might be interested in our club!
As WRC brings in new board members and starts the spring racing season, we are looking forward to getting to know each other and sharing a strong and successful new year of running. If you have any questions concerns, ideas, or just want to chat about running, you can reach us at elyse.braner@gmail.com and tammaanne@gmail.com. We would love to hear from you!
