Race News

WRC won the team competition at Lawyers Have Heart 10K June 17th in Georgetown. Run in humid, oppressive conditions, WRC put together a stalwart performance to secure the Sheldon Karlin Trophy. This is an improvement from last year when we took second behind DC Road Runners. Below is a listing of WRC runners and times:

6) Chris Hartshorn 34:28
11) Todd Martin 36:05
28) Patty Fulton 39:19
36) Donna Moore 40:24
199) Adina Siegel 46:48
342) Caitlin Adams 49:53

Club Members Kim Robinson (38:20) and Jay Wind (39:22), who were not running as part of the WRC team also did quite well. The overall individual winner was Philippe Rolly, defending his title in a time of 31:33

Our friend Todd was quite hampered by the fact that a minor catastrophe befell him. Said Todd

“The chip fell off my shoe and I had to run back, look around and hand carry it to the finish”. Hey Todd- that is how the chips fall.

Commented Caitlin:

That was one HOT and HILLY race. I am disappointed with my performance but I felt great when I was done (I don’t think I have run a 10K at such a slow pace in years).

Confirms Adina

The lawyers have heart race….ugh! that was pure misery for me…..the 3 Hs prevailed: hot, hilly, and don’t forget humid

Special congratulations are in order for Chris Hartshorn, who in his first race with the club, posted the fastest time among us. He is a real up and comer. And or course, we are always benefit from having Patty and Donna, who are becoming the backbone of our racing teams.

Blackwater Eagleman Triathlon, June 4th
Jasha Fields and Robin Oswald continue their tear along the local triathlon circuit. At the Blackwater-Eagleman Triathlon on June 4th in Cambridge Maryland, Robin Oswald was 55th out of 295 women in an elapsed time of 4:53:27(5th in her age group). What is perhaps most impressive about Robin’s performance is that she simply blazed the last leg of the race – the 13.1 mile run – in a time of 1:28 (6:48 pace). Said Robin about this performance

“It was a great day for racing, not too hot and partly sunny. Jascha had strong swim and bike legs and showed real heroism on the run despite unbelievably bad blisters. I had a decent swim and an amazing run, only 1 minute off my PR.”

Jascha managed to gut out and finish in a good time of 4:52:25. A number of local tri-athletes including Phil Kozub and Desiree Ficker qualified for Ironman Hawaii at this race.

Jay Wind posted a 39:11 at the Oy Vay 10K in Rockville on June 11th, good enough for 4th place, while Jascha Fields took 6th in a time of 40:24 (still sore from Eagleman, no doubt). The race was won by Lemma Bonssa of Silver Spring in a time of 31:05.

Returning from Distant Climes…
We understand that Frank Sprtel will be returning to DC in August. He has graduated from law school in Oregon and is presently studying for the bar. We wish Frank all the best with the bar, and look forward to having him join us for workouts later in the summer.

And speaking of folks returning back to the fold, Katherine Turner has returned from Italy at long last. Katherine is again living in Georgetown. Says Katherine

“I have been running, and trying to get back to where I was last year, but unfortunately, travelling and not being able to run very much have set me back a bit. But no worries, starting to get back into the swing of it.

Sunday Run – Change of Venue
