WRC Team takes 3rd Place at the St. Patrick’s Day 8k (March 11, 2012)

Congratulations to all WRC members who raced in the St. Patrick’s Day 8k this morning and especially those who signed up for the team competition:  Geoff King, Kirk Masterson, Brian Savitch, Emily Buzzell, and David Pittman.

Team scoring for the race was based on the top four team runners with at least one female required for scoring.  Team results can be found here: St. Patrick’s Day 8k Team Race Results 2012.

This is a great start to the spring road racing season!  Stay tuned for more opportunities to join WRC teams in upcoming races; the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler is up next with WRC fielding several teams for this event.

If you have any suggestions for races with team competitions, please let us know!

Thank you to all the volunteers for the Friends of the W&OD 10K!

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make the Friends of the W&OD 10k race a success! Congratulations to all the race participants as well for slugging it out in the heat and humidity.

I highly encourage those who raced to write up their own race report for the club’s newsletter to share their unique perspective on their race performance and the race itself.

WRC has agreed to co-sponsor the Friends of the W&OD 10k race. As co-sponsors, WRC members receive a $10 discount on registration ($20 vs. $30). Also, for every two volunteers, WRC receives one free entry. WRC has also agreed to provide a variety of volunteers, with volunteer shifts typically lasting four hours.

How to participate (running or volunteering): Email WRC President John Kendra no later than July 9, 2011 and indicate whether you intend to run, volunteer, or both. Free entries are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Race details:

When: July 30 at 6:30 p.m. (yes, in the evening)

Where: Vienna, VA – the race takes place on the W&OD Trail

Both volunteering for and participating in local races is one of the best ways WRC can support the vibrant running community that exists in the D.C. metro area. Volunteers are essential to a race’s success. Running races, well, that’s the fun part, not to mention a way to show off all the blood, sweat, and tears you’ve put into your training.
