Summer Running at WRC

Hello WRC Members!

Thanks to all of you that have become more involved in the club’s recent social and running activities. We’ve got lots more ahead this June with track workouts, trail running, race teams, and other fun summer social events!

Long Run–As always, the Sunday long run starts at 8 am on the corner of 33rd and M in Georgetown. Meet for coffee at Dean and Deluca after the run.

We want to hear all of your race results, run related stories, and see your race and run photos so we can share all of your news with the club. Also, if you are interested in writing a race report or another article, let us know. Please e-mail information and photos to Tamma at tammaanne@gmail.com

DC United beats Chivas USA
Thanks to those of you who came out to support DC United last Saturday with fellow WRC members. We had a great time watching our local soccer team! We plan on having an event at Nationals Park later this summer, so keep your eyes out for updates on more sporting events!

Run to Your New Farmers’ Market!
WRC’s very own Tamma Carleton has been working with a group of local volunteers to bring a farmers’ market to the Columbia Heights neighborhood. The Marketplace will be open Saturdays from 9am to 2pm starting June 5th in the Civic Plaza at 14th St and Park Rd NW. The kick-off this Saturday will include live music and dance, student performances, speeches and, of course, lots of locally grown delicious food! If anyone is interested in attending as a group to support Tamma, please contact Amanda Hamilton.

Want to get on some trails?
Bryon Powell recently put together a guide to trail running in and around Washington, DC. http://www.irunfar.com/2010/03/trail-running-washington-dc.html Check it out to find some great off-pavement trails for summer training!

Feel the need for speed?
Come get faster at WRC’s weekly track workouts, held Tuesday mornings at 6:30am at American University and 6:45am at Cardozo High School. Workouts are posted each week on WRC’s website.

Race Teams for the Fall
Huge thanks to everyone that ran the Capitol Hill Classic as part of the WRC, including Daniel Galante, Amanda Hamilton, Diana Johnson, and Adina Wadsworth!

With the summer heat hitting in full, we’re shifting our training.
Also, we are starting to focus on our fall race teams. If you would like to participate on a team for either the Woodrow Wilson Half http://www.wilsonbridgehalf.com/ or the Army Ten Miler http://armytenmiler.com/
please let Cris (anarcha_crisis@yahoo.com) know. We already have several runners lined up, but are looking to recruit more. For the Army 10 Miler, please let Cris know of your interest by June 20.

The Ragnar Relay Challenge

Ragnar Relay: WRC has a couple of half-price entries to the Washington, D.C. Ragnar Relay. If you are interested in organizing and entering a WRC team, please contact Elyse Braner or Amanda Hamilton .

Ragnar is an 194.5 mile adventure-fest will push you and 11 pals through the stunning scenery of the Potomac River Valley. Starting near the town of Cumberland, MD, your team will head east through the thick forests of the Appalachian Mountains. Around night fall you’ll run through the quiet streets of many charming historic Civil War-Era towns, ultimately passing within the shadows of the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. The race (and your stamina) wraps on the shores of the Potomac River and ends at National Harbor. www.ragnarrelay.com
