Mike Proulx, 28, Arlington, VA. Mike recently moved here
from Colorado though he originally hails from Canton, CT, which was once
the hometown of former olympic decathlon gold medalist, Bruce Jenner. Mike's
running has been improving through his dedication to the track workouts
and distance run. While perhaps not a decathlete like his fellow hometown
mate Bruce, Mike has nonetheless shown his adept skill in charming his
way into other people's hotel rooms at out-of-town races as witnessed in
Philly.
Joseph Pires, 22, stationed at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland.
Joe holds pr's of 68 minutes for 10 miles and 18 minutes for 5k. Joe showed
up this past Sunday for the club distance run and advanced his usual 4
to 5 mile run distance of late to a pr distance of 14 miles. See what showing
up will get you? Yep, running comaraderie and sore legs.
We welcome Mike and Joe into the WRC!
Returned!
Courtney Fulton, who visited DC and the WRC back in those winter months
we've already forgotten about, for snow sucks, has moved to the DC area
to work and attend grad school at American University. Courtney is working
and studying in the wellness area and is training for the Chicago Marathon.
We now can officially welcome Courtney to DC and wish her the best in her
upcoming marathon and new adventure! |

Dave
Keating reported that most of the WRCers enjoyed a tasty italian supper
out at one of Philadelphia's eateries, Bella Mia, the night before the
race where team strategy was discussed. Dave wouldn't divulge details but
did summerize the discussions as "do this as fast as possible...left right,
left right, or if you prefer right left, right left for 13.1 miles." It
seemed to have worked wonders given the grand performances.

Happy
Hour
The
WRC held a happy hour on Friday, September 19, at the Rock Bottom Brewery
in the Ballston Common Mall in Arlington. Member turnout was a bit down
due to Isabel, who wasn't invited, but who tormented many out of electricity
and their sanity. Still, the hearty that showed had a beer-hefting good
time!
On
the Red Oval

We
continue to get great turnouts at the Tuesday evening track workouts, including
some new folks (5 this past week). For more info on WRC track workouts,
the track page tells
a story or two. It's beginning to get quite dark now. We'll remain on Tuesdays
for a couple of weeks yet...we may switch to Wednesday's soon to partake
of the one night where they put on the lights. Stay tuned...
Sunday
Distance Run
A bunch of us meet on Sunday
mornings to run distances of 10-18 miles (if you want/need to go shorter,
you can turn around and head back at any point to your liking since our
runs are almost always out and back courses).
We start at 8 am in
Georgetown
on M Street (3300 Block, across the street from the Staples Store with
the red awnings). Distance
run info and directions
After
running we regroup at Dean & DeLuca (3276 M Street, NW) for refreshments
and to gross out the rich and famous with our soiled running duds, tired
legs, and tales of sojourn. Okay, hey, most of us do change our shirts
after the run so it isn't quite that bad!
Nineteen
showed
this past Sunday so we did a grand job taking over a significant part of
the towpath and then the D&D coffee joint. The pretty and handsome
(well, the guys can dream can't they?) countenances included: Erica, Adina,
Win, Courtney, Julia, Challice, Gerry, Steve, Tris, Mike, Mike, Dave, Steve,
Joe, Jim, Jim, Chris, Ed, and Ryan. Then, we were lucky enough to have
club consultant Ed Doheny join us at D&D to make our coffee and gab
experience complete. |

That's all for now...thanks for reading!
