4. MEMBER STUFFAGE.
A. New page to archive member running routes!
In addition to WRC's regular running route page, we now have a page where
members can list runs of their own that they wish to share. This is at
the suggestion of Kyle Yost, so thus, Kyle has the first archive, an almost
20 mile loop out of Georgetown. If you wish to participate, use Gmap's
pedometer function to map out your route and then send it to the club with
any notes of interest, such as places with water, landmarks, etc.
Check it out: http://www.washrun.org/dcroutes/memroutes.html
B. New Members. We welcome Sachiko Kataoka and
John Lindeman into the WRC!
C. Congrats to the Wardians! The Stork delivered
to Michael and Jennifer Wardian a 7 pound 15 oz baby boy on July 11th.
The WRC extends congratulations and best wishes to Mike, Jennifer, and
new little Pierce Miler Wardian!
D. M-J Participates in Running Camp! M-J Oboroceanu
was out in Malibu, CA, in July for a week of running camp...she reported,
"It was a lot of fun!"
E. Ex-pres visits WRC. Dave Keating, one time
president and fearless leader of the WRC showed last Sunday to have a run
with his former club. If you recall, it was Mr. Keats who was largely responsible
for reinvigorating the WRC in the early 90's by producing a website and
recruiting runners wherever he spotted a wayward running soul that seemingly
had lost its way. Great to see you Dave!
F. Injuries Please Heal! Unfortunately,
some members are suffering from injuries of late. Some of note include
local area standout Casey Smith with a fracture in her leg, Jessica Marquis
with a bite of plantar fasciitis, Will Ellison with some plantars but able
to run through it, Charles Manahan with a bum knee, and various others
with ailments of one kind or another. We wish all a speedy recovery!

F. Kyle Yost is Looking for a Swimmer and a Runner (one must be a woman).
This in from Kyle: "We need to find three WRC members willing to compete
as a relay team in the brand new Nations Triathlon on 9/16.
www.thenationstriathlon.com. Local triathlon, cycling, and running
clubs are using the event to hold a “Best of DC” Club Championship race.
Every club submits one 3-person co-ed relay team, and each person does
one leg of the triathlon. It’s a 1500 meter swim in the Potomac (safe,
so they say?!?), a 20 mile bike around the mall and Rock Creek Park, and
a 10K run around the mall with the finish at the Lincoln Memorial.
It’s a fantastic venue, and hopefully WRC wants to participate and can
hold our own. Obviously we won’t have too much difficulty coming
up with someone who can smoke a fast 10K, but can we dredge up a good swimmer
and cyclist as well? I’m happy to handle the cycling duties, but
that means we need a swimmer and runner and one must be female. Can
WRC beat all the local triathlon clubs at their own game?
If interested in this very local event, email Kyle at kyleyost@gmail.com

5. FYI: BOSTON MARATHON CHANGES START TIME FOR 2007. Press
Release: 2007 Boston Marathon to Begin at 10 a.m.
Earlier start will benefit runners and communities along the race course.
BOSTON, Mass. – The Boston Athletic Association, in cooperation with
the eight cities and towns along the Boston Marathon course, today announces
that the 111th Boston Marathon, on Monday, April 16, 2007, will begin at
10 a.m.
“An earlier starting time will benefit the 22,500 runners who compete
in the marathon due to the cooler temperatures, while allowing all of the
communities, and the City of Boston in particular, to re-open roads to
traffic earlier in the day,” said Guy Morse, Executive Director of the
Boston Athletic Association, organizer of the Boston Marathon. “Also, due
to the efficiency of the 'Wave Start' program which we implemented for
the first time in 2006, the majority of runners will not be transported
from Boston to Hopkinton much earlier than in past years.”
[Sounds like a good idea to us!]
